As a Web 3 DeFi tech editor, I’d like to highlight the distinct approaches taken by the European Union (EU) and the United States in regulating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other software. The EU’s AI Act, for instance, focuses on understanding the scope of the problem and collaborating with industry to establish broad guardrails. In contrast, the US Executive Order on AI is more concerned with market access and regulatory barriers, prioritizing a more executive and strategic approach.

The EU’s Cyber Resilience Act is a broad, sweeping piece of legislation covering a wide range of technologies with digital elements, requiring conformity assessment processes. In contrast, the US has adopted a voluntary labeling approach, focusing on a narrower scope of IoT devices.

On the ground, we’re already seeing the application of AI in various use cases. For example, the International Counter Ransomware Initiative, started by a cybersecurity agency in Italy, is pooling sensitive data from 30 EU countries to analyze behavioral patterns and prevent cybersecurity attacks. This demonstrates how regulations are driving the adoption of AI in security measures.

Interestingly, AI is also being used to detect potential threats, flipping the traditional concept of security on its head. This highlights the evolving landscape of security policies for AI and other software, with both regions taking distinct approaches to address these complex issues.

In the world of DeFi, AI is transforming the way we think about security. By analyzing vast amounts of data, AI algorithms can detect anomalies and predict potential threats, allowing for more efficient and targeted security measures. This shift toward AI-powered security is a key area of focus for DeFi platforms, ensuring the secure and seamless exchange of digital assets.
